Event Details

Thanks to everyone for the great turnout at the March 10, 2010 Sweets and Tweets and to Anil Dash for his terrific presentation. It was the 4th in my continuing cupcake salon, the one-year anniversary!
The event features DC's smartest geeks talking about social media, government and business. And of course it's a chance for DC's digerati to rub shoulders and eat cupcakes at the very cool Baked and Wired in Georgetown.
Check out some great photos. Watch the replay of the livestreamed VIDEO (thanks to @digiphile). Read @KStreetKate's write-up on NBCWashington.com. The best way to hear about the next one is to follow me on Twitter @debbieweil. See you soon.

Yours in cupcakes and social media,
Debbie

Attn: CUPCAKE LOVERS!
Join us for another edition of Sweets and Tweets, a private, after-hours event at the very cool Baked and Wired. Eat cupcakes, mingle with DC's digerati and hear blogging and tech celeb Anil Dash (he has 327K Twitter followers) talk about Dot Gov as the New Dot Com.
Anil was the first employee at global blogging company Six Apart and is widely respected as a legendary blogger and a thought leader on the evolution of social web technologies for government, science and culture.
He is now applying the lessons of Web 2.0 to government through his new DC-based incubator Expert Labs. The goal of Expert Labs is to connect policy makers with the brightest minds - and sharpest tools - in technology. Anil calls it a "Do Tank" instead of a "Think Tank." We'll hear the latest on Expert Labs, as well as Anil's thoughts on the Gov 2.0 phenomenon unfolding here in Washington and across the country.
Anil has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Wired, MSNBC, CNN, ABC News, the BBC and NPR. Read his Who's Next interview with Fast Company. Listen to an interview with him on Federal News Radio.
Our sponsor is Microsoft's U.S. Public Sector division responsible for business across federal, state, and local government, higher education and K-12 markets, and the U.S. healthcare market. Its new Applied Innovations Team empowers public sector customers through development and deployment of solutions and social engagements, particularly in the areas of open and cloud computing, and social software.
Sweets and Tweets features leading voices from DC's diverse technology community on the use of social media by the public and private sector, from the White House and federal agencies to local startups. The event series is produced and hosted by author and corporate social media consultant Debbie Weil.
Previous events featured Mark Drapeau, now Director of Innovative Social Engagement for Microsoft, GeniusRocket's Mark Walsh on crowdsourcing and HHS's Andrew P. Wilson on using social media in a crisis.
Every attendee at this private event gets:
- FREE delicious cupcakes: Baked & Wired's cupcakes declared best in the nation by The Atlantic
- The chance to rub shoulders - and learn from - those working in DC's innovative and increasingly active social media and Gov 2.0 space.
This is a small, intimate event so don't wait to register if you are interested. Space is limited because of the size of the venue.
